Barry Forms; New Spot to Watch

Newly formed, Tropical Storm Barry is on track to make landfall in Mexico within the next 24 hours.

This is the second named storm of the year, and comes weeks ahead of when we normally see our B-name storm form in the Atlantic.

Meanwhile, a lingering front will provide an opportunity for subtropical or tropical formation by the end of next week and into the weekend. The National Hurricane Center has assigned a low (20%) chance of formation along the coast of Florida, Georgia, and the Carolinas within the next week.

There is no imminent threat of formation from this. We have several days to monitor development chances.

Regardless of development, this stalled front will likely create enhanced rain chances along the northeast Gulf coast late next week into the weekend.

“Chantal” is the next name up on our 2025 naming list.
