Category 4 Hurricane Beryl is spinning about 125 miles SE of Kingston, Jamaica Wednesday morning. With 145mph sustained winds, this continues to be a major storm with life-threatening storm surge and winds expected today.
Beryl’s eye is still moving west-northwest at about 20mph. Given the strong steering current, we expect the center of this storm to pass over or very close to Jamaica later today.
Will we see a landfall? It’s likely and will be a close call if we don’t get a direct landfall. Regardless, these islands will get the dirty side of Hurricane Beryl, where strongest surge and winds are focused.
Here’s the updated watches/warnings:
- Hurricane Warning: Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.
- Hurricane Watch: Haiti and Dominican Republic
- Tropical Storm Watch: Coast of Belize from south of Chetumal to Belize City
